Skagit
Herald owned locally
Mount Vernon's
Skagit
Valley Herald,
1000 E. College Way, is owned by Leighton Wood
and wife Susan Scripps-Wood of the Scripps-Howard
clan.
The newspaper
building and land was purchased in 1990 at a quit-claim
price of $35,000 from the now defunct First Scripps League
Realty. Today, (2003) building and land are valued at a
total $1.06 million (To gain and maintain an iron grip on
local communications takes connections and money, to the
intense surprise of all).
The paper recently
was owned by the Skagit Valley Publishing Company, 221 1ST
Ave. W. #405, Seattle, WA 98119, with Delancey B. Lewis as
registered agent.
Now it's
apparently owned by the Scripps-Wood Limited Liability Corp.
Ultimate registered agent is John A. Reed (under a series of
corporate masks).
Wood may be
reached at POB 578, Mount Vernon, WA, 98272 or (360)
424-3251.
Wood's other
ownerships reportedly are at 1243 S. 10th St., Mount Vernon,
WA, 98273 and 121 N. Ball St., Sedro Woolley, WA
98984
