Boyd Gray,
Toppenish
Topics at this week's
meeting--slated for 7 p.m. today at the Toppenish
Eagles Club--are two Fourth of July events.
Projects include the
Toppenish Parade and a booth on the Rodeo Grounds for
the four-day rodeo.
Also at tonight's meeting,
KNDO Channel 4 is expected to do a special feature
about the STAND-UP Committee.
"We'd LOVE to see a good
turnout at tonight's meeting," said Executive Director
Willman. "We're telling our members to 'Please come if
you possibly can'."
Factual updates will
include developments across the country, in Toppenish
and across Washington, regarding tribal government
activities which would replace democracy with
"sovereign authority" that provides no voice for
non-Indians.
The STAND-UP Committee's
website address is http://www.yakvalnews.com/Page_40.html
"The website includes a
recent email letter I received from Governor (Gary)
Locke's office, and many letters-to-editors recently
published in area newspapers," said Director Willman.
"We have great links to
grassroots groups like ours, across the country. We're
getting lots of 'hits' on our site and also getting
very high compliments on the site content and layout,"
she said.
"Our huge thanks go out to
Larry and Carol
Ashby for putting
us on the Internet 'global' map! The site has been
extremely helpful for linking our local group with
some 285 OTHER groups like us, formed up across the
country," she said.
Regarding Fourth of July
festivities, she said, "We need folks (and little
kids!) to ride on our float on Tuesday, July 4. We
also need a few folks willing to work a four-hour
shift in our booth at the Rodeo."
