Sheriffs Dave Mattis and Doug Blair: there couldn't BE a bigger difference in lawmen

SUNNYSIDE (Saturday 3-25-00)---A sheriff in Wyoming insists that all federal law enforcement officers and personnel from federal regulatory agencies clear all their activities in Bighorn County with his office.

Speaking at a press conference following the recent U.S. District Court decision (case No. 2:96-cv-099-J), Bighorn County Sheriff Dave Mattis stated that all federal officials are forbidden to enter his county without his prior approval.

Given that information, there couldn't be a more profound difference between Dave Mattis and Yakima County Sheriff Doug Blair.

Liberal Republican Blair has consistently refused to talk with Yakima Valley News reporters who have attempted to contact him by phone, by mail, and by e-mail.

At the same time, Yakima Valley News has shown that Yakima County is literally infested with the same kind of federal agents Bighorn County is reining in. YVN has identified many of these feds, and their digs.

We have identified IRS feds and their many victims. We have asked liberal Republican Blair about what protections his office will render on behalf of Yakima County Americans in the face of a real, come-lately federal onslaught.

We have long held the suspicion that Blair actually assigns his county deputies to take people's homes and property, at gunpoint, on behalf of the feds. We believe Blair simply takes fed assignments, as if "they're the boss". We have asked him about this point blank, but he refuses to answer.

Doug Blair has taken the same oath of office as Bighorn County Sheriff Dave Mattis. In the low-life tradition of Impeached President Bill Clinton, however, Sheriff Blair has ducked each and every question YVN has ever put to him. He stonewalls.

Doug Blair is up for reelection in 2002. We can only recommend, in view of our press experiences with him, that he be ousted without a backward glance. Yakima County needs a Dave Mattis to take the helm.
