(Tuesday 1-25-00)--- Police have arrested a
Sunnyside man after a tip that drugs were
being sold in the 700 block of S. 7th
Street.

- Officers staked
out the sales location through most of this
month and reportedly spotted several
narcotics sales.

- Det. Sgt. Jim
Rivard said officers closed in on the
activity at 9:30 p.m. today and ended up in a
foot chase with a suspect, who was found in
possession of methamphetamine and
heroin.

- Arrested in
connection with the incident and booked into
Sunnyside Jail was
Jesus
Mendoza,
25, of 725 S. 7th St. He was charged with
delivery of meth and possession of meth and
heroin.

arrest two after drug bust
- SUNNYSIDE
(Tuesday 1-25-00)--- Police arrested two
Sunnysiders at 9 p.m. today and charged one
with possession of methamphetamine and the
other with possession of stolen
property.

- Police acted on
a tip that drugs were being sold in the 300
block of South Ninth St. No specific address
was reported. After serving a search warrant,
Roberto
Solis,
17, of Sunnyside, was found in possession of
a gram of meth.

- While searching
the house for drugs, police found about
$3,000 worth of stolen tools belonging to the
Washington State Migrant Council. A
probe led to the arrest of
Richard
Worbes,
337 S. Third St., who was arrested at Valley
Manufactured Housing for first-degree
possession of stolen property.

nabbed for drug sales
- SUNNYSIDE
(Wednesday 1-19-00)--- Police arrested two
out-of-towners for drug sales at the corner
of First Street and Lincoln Avenue near the
Agitation Station laundromat at 11
p.m. today. The two also made a sale to a
undercover police officer.

Pena, 39,
of 606 Division St. #14, Grandview, and
Victor
Hugo
Garcia,
26, of 1604 Sherman Ave.,
Prosser.

- Pena was jailed
for cocaine possession, and Garcia for meth
possession.

- Police said the
meth had a street value of $600, and the
coke, $1,200.

nab suspected dealer
- WAPATO (Monday
1-25-00)--Sheriff's deputies said an unnamed
Indian male, 37 was walking home on Campbell
Road near West Wapato Road around 6:15 p.m.
today when he was accosted by a Hispanic male
who carried a rifle and demanded cash.

- Deputies said a
struggle over the rifle ensued. The Indian
man was shot twice in the stomach. The
unidentified Hispanic male, believed to be
between 20 and 30 years old, reportedly fled.
The victim was transportd to Providence
Hospital, Toppenish, where he was treated for
his injuries, according to Deputy Edmund
Campbell.

nabbed for drive-by on I-82
- SUNNYSIDE
(Sunday 1-09-00)---State troopers have
arrested four persons after a drive-by
shooting that took place on I-82 near
Sunnyside early Sunday.

- The unnamed
victim told Trooper Brandon Karas that a
white pickup pulled along side of his sedan
and shot three slugs into it. Apparently,
there were passengers in the victim's
car.

- The victim and
his assailants reportedly bumped into each
other at an earlier Toppenish party, and had
a disagreement. The type of gun used is yet
to be determined, according
officers.

- Karas said the
victim's rear window was shattered and two
bullet holes were found in the left rear
quarter panel. No one was injured, according
to the WSP.

- While talking
with the victim, Karas reportedly spotted the
suspect white pickup pass by. He chased it
down in Sunnyside. With the help of Sunnyside
Police and Yakima Sheriff's deputies, he
nabbed its four occupants.

- Arrested in
connection with the incident were Sunnysiders
Antonio
Cardenas
Acevedo,
20, and
Fidel
Acevedo,
18, both of 815 S. 13th St., on charges of
withholding knowledge of a violent felony.

- Also arrested on
charges of criminal conspiracy and
withholding knowledge of a violent felony was
Juan
Valencia
Valle,
20, of 610 Columbia Ave.

- The WSP also
arrested a
16-year
old male,
of Sunnyside, on charges of first degree
assault. So far his name and address have not
been released. WSP impounded a white pickup
believed to be used for the drive by, and
obtained a warrant to search it
today.

- The three older
males were transported to Yakima County Jail,
where they await arraignment. The Juvenile
was taken to Yakima County Juvenile Jail,
according to officers.
