The "Shadow University"
Alumni should whack donations to politically correct colleges
SUNNYSIDE (Saturday, 1-6-00)---Want to know why America's universities are such big government, left-wing, politically correct mounds of mold these days?

It's because their midlevel administrators are afraid of left-wing feminists, left-wing minorities, and left-wing militant homosexuals.

Midlevel management is bucking for top-level management. They know disruptive leftist groups are willing to man the megaphones and camp outside their office door if they don't get their way. That simply might hurt midlevel administrators' chances for promotion.

"They want to keep things quiet on their watch," said authors of "The Shadow University", a book now in paperback and available at q.

Midlevel administrators at most universities today often are themselves former leftist campus activists who have become the establishment. They see feds and staters as their job security, and will do all they can to appease today's campus bogeymen.

It doesn't matter whether conservative or libertarian students raise a ruckus. It's easy to ignore these nonpolitically correct folks. Nobody cares what militant conservatives think. Do as you want with them. Just boot 'em out.

This, however, sets up an insidious "double standard" on campus.

In this double standard, such terms "nigger", "greaser", "queer", "water buffalo", "dyke", "bimbo", "beaner", "queen" or "faggot" are out. No No No. Secretive university rules allow the secret expulsion of those who use them. Break a speech code, and you're out. One day you're in class, the next day you're kangaroo courted into exile.

Politically correct, however, are such terms as "honky","whity", "redneck","wasps", "disgusting homophobe," "greedy capitalist", military "baby killers", "uncle tom", "Oreos", "bananas" and "coconuts". The last three signify conservative minorities colored on the outside, but "white" on the inside. These insults are fine to use; they're politically correct. No one is removed from a university for using them.

This double standard--one among many manifestations of double standards exposed in "The Shadow University"--is obvious.

No longer are university campuses places for freewheeling speech, political rough-and-tumble, or cauldrons where ideas are tested for truth. Heterosexual conservatives of all races thus become cynical. Their natural resentment is driven deep inside until they graduate.

"Shadow University" authors say private colleges and universities often are the worst. They write grant proposals for federal dollars to keep their financial heads above the waterline. Use of these dollars allows feds to impose leftwing federal policy on private campuses.

"Colleges are very hypocritical. They won't give up federal money", say authors interviewed on the G.Gordon Liddy show.

But leftists do understand money and they love it. They don't tend to be doctors, engineers, farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, or other productive individuals. If their money sources threaten to dry up, they will panic. It's a good button to push.

College alumni continuously receive donation requests from their alma maters. Before they sign and mail a check, alumni should ask their former college for a copy of its campus speech and conduct codes. To get a feel for the place, they should also chat with a variety of students currently attending.

If the college complies and sends code information, it should be studied for signs of the now infamous double standards. If double standards are present, or if the college simply refuses to send the information, alumni should inform the college's trustees--as well as other alumni--that they will send no money and why.

Alumni might be the saving grace of today's colleges, which likely are very different from the alma maters former students remember.
