Steeples Productions
- Digital TV
production coming
- to the Lower
Yakima Valley
- ZILLAH (Monday 11-22-99)--Digital Television
production
- is coming to the lower Yakima Valley, according
to folks at Zillah Community Seventh Day Adventist
Church.
-
- According to a Church news release:
-
- Vision
-
- The alarming rate of increase in violent acts
in society has
- inspired one local congregation to increase its
outreach in a direct
- way that better fits the modern American
lifestyle and captures the
- attention of busy people.
-
- Recognizing society's greater need for a hope
in the future, the Zillah Community Seventh-day
Adventist Church embarked upon a high-tech television
project in early 1998. This surprises many when they
realize it comes from a small church in a community of
just slightly over 2000!
-
- Methods
-
- In nearly every community where cable
television services are
- available, system operators do business under a
franchise agreement
- which requires that at least one channel be set
aside for Public,
- Educational or Governmental (PEG) use.
-
- As one type of Public programming, registered
producer-
- representatives for "Steeple Productions" (the
church project) have
- begun sponsoring their half-hour television
programs on cable systems
- in the Pacific Northwest...providing an open
doorway into thousands
- of homes where people are daily asking
"why".
-
- Steeple Productions is also preparing all its
video and audio
- product for streaming-distribution via the
World Wide Web (RealAudio,
- RealVideo, Windows Media and MP3) and as
Quicktime movies for an
- entire generation that now spends easily as
much time before a
- computer monitor as a traditional television
set.
-
- While standard television broadcast outlets are
not being ignored they are not yet a major part of
Steeple's program distribution, due to the
great
- expense.
-
- Steeple Productions programs are currently seen
on Falcon Cable
- channel 9 in Yakima, Selah, Wapato, Toppenish,
Granger and Zillah. In
- Kennewick, Pasco and Richland programs are seen
on TCI Cable channel
- 13. Expansion plans for Spokane, Tacoma,
Seattle, Bellingham and the
- Portland, Oregon metro-area are also being
developed.
-
- Staff
-
- Zillah is fortunate to have a telegenic church
leader with
- several years experience as a daily, radio
talk-show host, (Pastor
- Charles
Byrd), a full-time Producer/Technical
Director with a radio
- and television broadcast and engineering
background, (Joe
Mann) and a
- dedicated team of 9+ volunteers, including
audio specialist,
Duane
- Berry, who
recently became a Christian after eighteen years of
sound
- production for "big acts" in the music
industry.
-
- "I turned my back on music altogether and
didn't even listen to music on the radio. I had come
to believe that the 18 years I had spent were just a
waste and of no earthly good to anyone, but to my
surprise, God had a spot for me to use my "wasted
knowledge" for His glory!" Programs.
-
- Steeple Productions has begun an in-depth, 26
part, half-hour series
- based upon the widely-published and translated
volume "Steps to
- Christ". Public responses have been favorable
as the distribution of
- the programs has grown to nine cities in
Washington state.
-
-
- Additional specialty programs covering a
variety of topics such
- as family relationships, practical how-to
videos and popular
- scientific matters like Health,
Creation/evolution and Astronomy are
- also being developed.
-
- Commercial
Services
-
- Steeple Productions operates with
state-of-the-art digital-video
- cameras and non-linear editing equipment from
the Sony Corporation.
- Finished product is currently dubbed to DVCAM,
SVHS and VHS with MPEG video planned shortly.
-
- On and off-site original video production for
commercial and
- non-commercial clients are also offered
including a comprehensive
- production-music library and sound effects
gallery. Blue and green
- screen studio facilities for special image
insertion (ala Hollywood)
- are scheduled to come on-line later this
year.
