wounded in Safari knifings
- SUNNYSIDE
(Sunday, 10-24-99)--Two Sunnysiders were
wounded early today in a knife fight at the
Safari Inn at 616 Edison Ave.

said investigations revealed
Geronimo
"Jerry" Perez
III, 29,
of 322 E. North Ave., apparently stabbed
Jose
Roman,
33, also of Sunnyside. Reason for the
stabbing is not known.

- Police said
Roman's stab wounds required medical
treatment, but he was released from Sunnyside
Community Hospital a short time later with
wounds to the upper and lower rib
cage.

- A third person
allegedly stabbed Perez on the left side just
below the rib cage. Perez also was treated at
SCH. Witnesses are mum about who stabbed
Perez, so police can't file charges against
that person.

- Police arrested
Perez and charged him with first degree
assault.

- Police said they
recovered a knife that may have been used in
the fight.

arrested for indecent
liberties
- SUNNYSIDE
(Wednesday, 10-20-99)--Sunnyside police have
arrested a local man for indecent liberties
after a complaint by the alleged
victim.

- Sgt. Jim Rivard
said an adult female reported she had several
friends over one evening where alcohol was
being consumed. Later, after people left, the
woman said she was awakened to find a "friend
of a friend" lying on top of her. The
incident reportedly took place at 1200 Blaine
Ave.

- Police said the
woman told them she managed to get the
suspect off her and to leave the
residence.

- They said the
suspect later attempted to re-contact the
woman and officers apprehended
him.

- Detectives
arrested
Rafael
Morfin,
21, of 2400 E. Edison Ave. #A-103, in
connection with the incident. Police charged
him with indecent liberties, a
felony.

bust man for possession
- SUNNYSIDE
(Friday, 10-15-99)--Sunnyside police have
arrested a local man for drug possession,
officers say.

- Jose Richard
Negrete,
23, of of 530 Wendel Phillips Rd., Sunnyside,
was arrested at 410 South Hill Rd., Apt. E-2
at 3:15 p.m. yesterday, officers
said.

- Acting on a
warrant, police reportedly entered and found
three grams of cocaine, four grams of meth,
and 10 grams of marijuana at the apartment
location.

- Officers said
Negrete was booked at Sunnyside PD and will
be transported to Yakima County Jail to face
arraignment, according to Det. Samuel
Ramos.

- SUNNYSIDE
(Tuesday, 10-12-99)--A Sunnyside man has been
arrested by Sunnyside police on charges of
first degree rape of a child at his home,
according to reports.

- Jesus Cuevas
Ruiz, 49,
of 505 Victory Way, was arrested without
incident at his home at around 6 p.m.today
after police determined a sexual offense had
taken place there, according to Officer Jose
Treviño.

Ruiz into Sunnyside City Jail. He'll be
transported to Yakima County Superior Court
for arraignment tomorrow.

arrest 10 after loud party
- SUNNYSIDE
(Sunday, 10-10-99)--Police have arrested 10
persons, five of whom are juveniles, after a
wee-hour party at 1415 S. 6th St., Apt. A1,
officers said today.

Rodriguez said partygoers attempted to run
and hide the alcohol when the saw police
driving up.

- "We were refused
entry, and no one would come to the door. We
got a search warrant, Rodriguez said.

- Once inside,
police arrested the only adult,

22, of Granger, for furnishing liquor to
minors and obstructing police
officers.

man arrested after chase
- SUNNYSIDE
(Friday, 10-08-99)--When officer Jim Ortiz
pulled over a car near South Avenue and the
Sunnyside-Mabton Highway, he got close enough
to smell liquor inside.

- He was getting
ready to ask for the driver's license when he
indicated the driver gunned the car and sped
away.

- "The pursuit
went onto county roads with speeds in excess
of 90 miles an hour," Ortiz said. Police
called in deputies and state patrolmen to
help in the chase.

- Ortiz said the
driver lost control of his car on Green
Valley Road about a mile west of
Midvale.

- Arrested in
connection with the incident was
Jose E.
Lopez,
18, of Grandview. Police took him into
custody on charges of attempting to elude
police, driving with a suspended license, and
DUI.
