gets first threats
- The
"Socialists" are coming!
- SUNNYSIDE (Tuesday,
July 13, 1999)---"Socialists Organized Towards
Freedom" have threatened the YVN with a civil
lawsuit if the online newspaper doesn't remove
public police records from its electronic
pages.

- The threat came in an
anonymous email to YVN from folks who don't want to
let anyone know who they are. Said the email,
misspellings and all:

- This is a formal request
for you to remove the uncontitutional sunnyside
arrest pictures that you have posted on your site.
You have posted pictures and PRIVATE information
such as phone numbers and addresses to people who
are intitled to their rights of privacy in
lifestyle and private trial. You have, by posting
this information, comprimised their rights. There
are even INNOCENT citizens that have been found
'not guilty' of the charges that you publicly
accuse them of. These citizens are now being
herassed due to your slanderous online publication.
Please remove these slanderous and unconstitutional
publications from your website. If this continues
cival and legal action may be taken.

- YVN offered a
rationale
in June of '98 for bringing to the attention of the
people police mug shots and public-record
information about those locally arrested for
violent crimes. That rationale stands today.

- We have noticed that,
since the YVN pages have been hoisted up, local
police report fewer violent crimes have taken place
in Sunnyside. Who can claim credit? Anyone.

- But only YVN
has posted online the public files which lie in
folders or computer hard drives at the Sunnyside
PD. Anyone can peruse these files containing
info about those arrested on charges of rape,
robbery, burglary, and assault. They're official
public records.

- It is interesting to
us to note that "Socialists" are the ones who would
threaten us for making police information about
violent thugs more accessible to the people. It is
equally interesting that Socialists make their
threats anonymously, and that they would choose our
civil
court
system as
the most efficient vehicle to get their
way.

- One political friend
told us Socialists first work against their natural
political enemy by discrediting him. If that
doesn't work, impoverish him. If that doesn't work,
kill him.

- We don't like
Socialists very much.
