- SUNNYSIDE (Tuesday,
7-20-99)---Two of Sunnyside's larger businesses
have each given $5,000 to our town's Centennial
Square and Historical Pathway Projects, according
to officials.
-
- Sprint--"the telephone
company" made its contribution earlier this month,
and Ace Hardware did so today.
-
- "These are outstanding
contributions," said Wendy Larson of the Uptown
Sunnyside Association. "We are very grateful to
these fine businesses."
-
- Co-chairs of the
fundraising project are Dale Johnson and Stan
Snow.
-
- The downtown project,
which will greatly beautify the area, will provide
a midtown community square, restrooms, a main stage
and sound system, beautiful landscaping, public
information kiosks, public art and statues
commemorating Sunnyside's 100th birthday in
2002.
-
- The Historical Pathway
features a meandering pathway between the Square,
the Sunnyside Museum and Ben Snipe's cabin.
-
- The pathway will
contain contributor acknowledgments, statues,
plaques depicting Sunnyside's history, ornamental
lighting, and fixtures of that early
era.
-
- Total cost of the
project is $870,000. Of this, $130,000 must be
raised to acquire two properties at Sixth Street
And Edison Avenue. The goal is to raise the money
in 130 days--in order to get the project finished
by Sunnyside's Centennial
Celebration.
-
- Contributions to the
Square will be acknowledged by various granite
monuments, pavers and bricks varying in prominence
by the amount of the contribution. Contribution
forms are now available by calling Miss Larson at
839-8275.
