- Badger
blaze
- Boys may be
charged for fire
- KENNEWICK (Tuesday,
7-9-99)---Three Kennewick boys ages 10 to 12 may
face charges for starting a range fire that burned
a large chunk of real estate in Badger Canyon this
afternoon.
-
- Lower Yakima Valley
hills were covered in a thick gray haze following
the blaze.
-
- Investigators
reportedly found foot prints plus burnt matches and
twigs in the area where the fire originated. They
interviewed area residents and learned the boys
were responsible, deputies said.
-
- Deputies said the boys
started a camp fire. One of them took a burning
stick and threw it toward dry brush and grass,
which ignited. Soon, the blaze was out of
control.
-
- Local residents
summoned fire units, which worked for hours to
control the blaze.
-
- Deputies said the case
is still under investigation. Reports will be sent
to the Benton County prosecutor for review and
possible charges, according to Lt. Al
Thompson.
