Boys paint the town, and cars, and...
SUNNYSIDE (Monday, 6-28-99)--Three Sunnyside boys decided to paint the town June 17, and police today believe they found out who it was.

Several folks called police between 10 p.m. and midnight June 17 and reported kids were shooting paintballs from a small blue car occupied by three or four teenage males.

First targets reportedly included houses, house windows, cars and garages on Harrison Hill. Later reports indicated the driveby paintballers were working in the Parkland homes area. More reports were phoned in the morning of June 18 as residents discovered their property had received unwanted paint jobs.

Investigations revealed the identity of the three young vandals according to police. Cops interviewed the trio and found they may have fired around 400 paint balls in the course of their outing.

Charges against the three will be requested through juvenile court, police said.

Arrested in connection with the incident were Jason McNabb and Randy Prilucik, both 16, and Gabriel Arriaga, 17, all of Sunnyside.

Sunnyside man arrested for rape

SUNNYSIDE (Saturday, 6-19-99)--Police have arrested a Sunnyside man after investigating an 8:40 p.m. report that a woman was earlier raped at a residence in the 400 block of Cemetery Rd.

Police said the victim and suspect were acquaintances and were in the residence with other friends when the victim fell asleep. She awoke as the suspect was committing the crime, police said.

Alcohol reportedly was a contributing factor. Police called a rape crisis advocate to help the victim. The suspect was later questioned and arrested.

Booked into Sunnyside Jail in connection with the incident was Victor J. Flores, 22, of 1115 Roosevelt Court, Sunnyside. He later was transported to Yakima County Jail.

Police arrest Toppenish man for cocaine

SUNNYSIDE (Saturday, 6-19-99)--Police arrested a Toppenish man this evening after learning drug transactions were taking place in the downtown area.

Bobby Jay Webb, 28, of 515 S. Elm St., Toppenish, was charged at 1 a.m. for possessing three grams of cocaine. Det. Jim Rivard said police made the arrest at Seventh Street and Edison Avenue.

Ex-boyfriend breaks into home

SUNNYSIDE (Saturday, 6-1-99)--A 16-year old Sunnyside girl told cops her ex-boyfriend smashed a window to break into her home at 1333 S. 8th St. at 9 a.m. today.

She reported the ex then chased her around and assaulted her inside the home. When she tried to call police, her ex reportedly disconnected the phone as she was talking to the dispatcher.

Police said the ex-boyfriend left the girl's home before patrolmen got there, but they chased him down. They said he had cuts on his hand, presumably from breaking the window. Cops said the cuts weren't serious.

After Sunnyside Hospital staff bandaged his hand, cops hauled the ex-boyfriend to Sunnyside PD for investigation of burglary. Detectives got his statement, then transported him to Yakima County juvenile jail for arraignment on burglary charges.

Det. Samuel A. Ramos said officers arrested Nick Melendrez, Jr., of 1230 S. 13th St., Sunnyside, in connection with the incident.
