- Man arrested for murder
- YAKIMA (Friday, 5-13-99)--Yakima Police have arrested a 24-year old man in connection with the blunt-instrument murder of a 57-year old man in the 1400 block of South 15th Street, according to reports.
- Killed in the 10 a.m. incident was Charles Plunket, Sr., 57, whose death resulted from blunt force injuries to his head. Arrested for second degree murder was Keith E. Cain, 24.
- Officers said they were alerted to a "man down" on South 15th St. Upon arriving, they found Plunket dead.
- After questioning several persons at the scene, detectives later arrested Cain and booked him into Yakima County Jail. The investigation is continuing, according to Capt. Jeff Schneider.
- Gangsters wound teen in drive-by
- YAKIMA (Friday, 5-4-99)--One set of young gangsters opened fire on another in the 600 block of E. Spruce St., a few minutes before 3:35 p.m. today, and one 16-year-old suffered critical injuries, police said.
- The victim was struck by two rounds from a small caliber semiautomatic as his assailant fled in a car. The victim reportedly was transported to a local hospital, then airlifted to a Seattle hospital in critical condition.
- Investigation of the incident led officers to a residence in the 500 block of South Fair Avenue.
- Three persons were located at the Fair Avenue address and taken in for questioning. Detectives interviewed the three plus a number of witnesses to the shooting. Police impounded a car believed to have been used in the drive-by.
- Jerardo Rivera, 19, was later arrested and charged with first-degree assault, then booked at Yakima County Jail.
- Another 16-year old was held as a material witness and booked into the Juvenile Detention Home. Police are still investigating, according to Capt. Jeff Schneider.
- No other names or complete addresses were given in reports.
