 BENTON COUNTY SHERIFF
Man banged up by train
PROSSER (Thursday 3-4-99)---Jim Bangs laid down by the railroad tracks near Gap and Johnson Roads at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, and deputies said he might have had a few drinks before he settled in.

Next thing you know, a Burlington/Santa Fe train came along. The engineer reportedly spotted Bangs lying face down along the rails, sounded his whistle and jammed on his brakes. He said Bangs looked up just before the cowcatcher banged him on the head.

Bangs was taken to Prosser Memorial Hospital with serious head injuries, and later flown to Seattle's Harbor View Medical Center, according to Sheriff's Lt. Paul Hart. Deputies said Bang's injuries probably aren't life threatening.
