Boy charged in sister's death

YAKIMA (Friday, 2-26-99)--Yakima Police have charged a Yakima boy with first degree manslaughter after the shooting death of his sister in their home at around 10 a.m.

 

Police indicated Joshua S. Romero, 15, of 1211 McKinley Ave, was responsible for the death of his sister, Jaselle Romero, also 15.

 

Jaselle and Joshua reportedly were playing a game of chance with a handgun. Both had their hand on the gun and both pointed it at Jaselle. Joshua allegedly pulled the trigger and the gun discharged, police said.

 

Officers dispatched to the home found Jaselle suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to Memorial Hospital where she died a short time later.

 

Joshua was taken to the police station and questioned by detectives. Later he was booked on charges of Manslaughter I, police said.

 

Capt. Jeff Schneider said the investigation will continue.
