DSN gets councilman's letter
SUNNYSIDE (Monday, 1-11-99)---The Daily Sun News has received a letter from Councilman Mike Farmer, one of the four "new" city councilmen.

Said Farmer:

"In response to the negative editorials that have been written and published by the Daily Sun News recently, i.e., Dec. 16, 1998 and Jan. 8, 1999:

"I wonder if (DSN Editor) Scott Hunt would be willing to write the same editorials belittling the new council for wanting to institute change in our city if Scott moved to Sunnyside and bought a home in a nice neighborhood and after a short time the neighborhood began to change.

"The neighbor on his right decided not to mow his lawn and the weeds took over.

"The neighbor's grass on his left never grew because cars were parked all over the lawn in various states of disrepair.

"And here is a crazy idea--the home across the street was involved in a gang shooting, and the home behind his was broken into and several thousand dollars of stuff was stolen.

"I will be the first to admit many others have been involved in the many changes made in Sunnyside. But my question is, would these changes have occurred without the election of the four new councilmen and their persistence to change things that really needed changing?

We have a good city with quality citizens who REALLY care. Let's all work together to make Sunnyside the city that all the other cities look to copy. We will not always agree on what is best but we should agree to discuss problems so that the best possible solution will come forward.

Let's stop talking negatively about what is wrong and talk about how we can make it better.
