Dennis Cummins honored
- PASCO (Friday 12-18-98)---Officer Dennis
Cummins is the Pasco Police Department's Police
Officer of the Year, officials announced
today.

- Capt. Doug Chambers said Cummins has been
a Pasco officer for 12 years and is currently
the area resource officer for Area #3.

- "He was the primary coordinator for our
Kurtzman Park Mini-Station and has worked
extensively to improve the qualify of live in
his area of responsibility," Chambers
said.

- Chambers said Cummins' "positive attitude
and desire to help citizens defines what
community policing is all about. He is well
respected by his peers, supervisors, and
management. He is truly a great asset to the
department, city, and community," Chambers
said.

- Three
jailed after a.m.drug bust
- PASCO (Wednesday 12-11-98)--Three persons
have been jailed after a drug bust at 6:30 a.m.
today following a search of a residence here,
according to Pasco police.

- Arrested were Richard L. Conn, 30; Norma
Mercado Conn, 34; and Felipe Mercado, 17, all of
1617 E. Lewis St.

- Richard Conn was arrested for delivering
cocaine to the Task Force on two separate
occasions and possession of cocaine and
marijuana. Norma Mercado Conn was arrested for
possession with intent to deliver cocaine and
marijuana. Both were placed in Franklin County
Jail.

- Felipe Mercado was charged with cocaine
delivery and marijuana possession. He was placed
in the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice
Center.

- Officers reportedly seized a large amount
of cash and two loaded handguns. Also seized
were 14 pounds of marijuana (street value
$12,000), plus two ounces of cocaine valued at
$1,600.

- Reports said the arrest went without
incident. Working with Pasco police on the
investigation was the Tri-City Metro Drug Task
Force.

- Pasco
robbery suspect held
- PASCO (Wednesday 12-9-98)--Police have
arrested a man and are holding him for
investigation following an armed robbery at
Smitty's Conoco, 508 N. 4th St. at 3:20 a.m.
today, according to reports.

- On investigative hold at Franklin County
Jail is Derek Williams, no age or address
immediately available.

- Smitty's clerk Nathan Chatel reportedly
told responding officers a lone black male
entered the store, jumped the counter and told
him "this is a robbery."

- The robber told Chatel he had a knife in
his pocket and ordered the clerk to open the
cash register. After the register was opened,
the robber reached in and grabbed all the bills
and fled, according to police. The whole scene
reportedly was captured on the store's
surveillance video camera.

- Police got a lead in the investigation
and officers later identified Williams as the
alleged robber, according to reports. Williams
was arrested without incident at 106 N. 6th
Ave., police said.
