- Three nabbed for earlier burglary
- SUNNYSIDE (Wednesday, 12-23-98)--Three Sunnysiders have been arrested this morning after investigation of a burglary that took place last October in the 500 block of Reeves Way.
- Police said information about the burglary came to them the first part of this month. It led them to arrest and charge the three.
- Taken in the burglary were cash, personal identification, a bankcard and playstation. Only the Sony playstation was recovered at an arrestee's residence, police said.
- Arrested in connection with the October burglary were Celerino Mojica, 23, 507 Woods Rd., Apt. F; Estevan Vasquez, 25, of 16683 VanBelle Rd., and Ben Cisneros, 22, of 1223 S. 15th St. All were charged with burglary at 9 a.m. today.
Alien arrested for gun, car assault
- SUNNYSIDE (Sunday, 12-20-98)--A Mexican national has been arrested for pistol possession and for a vehicular assault that took place at the Dark Horse Tav at 7 a.m. today, according to police.
- Police have arrested Marcos Antonio M. Magana, 21, of 6331 Emerald Rd. in connection with the incident.
Police said security officers at the Dark Horse spotted Magana with a .22 Derringer revolver. They took the gun and "removed" Magana from the bar at around 1 a.m.
- When the bar closed, security officers who took the gun from Magana were off duty and leaving the establishment. Magana reportedly rammed their vehicle. Security officers drove to the Police Dept. to report the incident. Magana followed them.
- Sunnyside police spotted and pursued and arrested Magana after he tried to get away. He is in police custody and will be arraigned in Yakima Superior Court on charges of being an alien in possession of a firearm and with vehicular assault, police said.
Police arrest burglary suspects
- SUNNYSIDE (Friday, 12-18-98)--Police have arrested two in connection with a residential burglary that took place at 10 p.m. today in the 700 block of North Avenue.
- Thugs reportedly took a TV, stereo, jewelry, money and whiskey bottles from the house, which police recovered.
- Arrested in connection with the incident were Rudy Peralez, 18, of Yakima, and Jose Escobar, 14, of 220 S. 3rd St. Sunnyside.
- Peralez was arrested and held for burglary, and transferred to Yakima County Jail to await arraignment in Superior Court.
- Escobar was sent to Juvenile Detention. He'll be arraigned in Juvenile Court.
- Since Escobar will soon be back on Sunnyside streets, if he isn't already, YVN will attempt to get a mug shot so Valley residents can see him coming.
- Police were able to catch the burglars because of a "watchful citizen" who saw burglars running with burgled loot. Police responded and located Peralez and Escobar at 604 Cemetery Road, Apt. "O", according to Det. Sgt. Jim Rivard.
Police nip burglary, arrest 2
- SUNNYSIDE (Tuesday, 12-9-98)--A alert neighbor spotted two 13-year old thugs breaking into a home in the 500 block of Cemetery Road, so he called the cops.
- He gave such a great description to the police dispatcher that patrolmen were able to locate and arrest both burglars within three blocks of the crime scene, police said. The kids didn't even get a chance to haul anything away.
- One of the thugs was found to have two outstanding warrants for other residential burglaries. He was booked into Sunnyside Jail, then transported to the Yakima Juvenile Detention Center for formal filing of charges.
- The other had no criminal record. He was released to his parents pending formal charges.
- "Thanks to an alert, observant neighbor, another crime in Sunnyside was avoided, said Officer James Orth.
Sunnyside,Wapato tag drug house
- WAPATO (Tuesday, 12-9-98)--Sunnyside and Wapato police arrested five Wapato residents and closed down a drug house here at 6 p.m. today, according to reports.
- Det. Sgt. Jim Rivard said the departments served three search warrants in Wapato city limits--at 708 S. Camas, 214 W. "C" St., and 510 W. Third St.
- Officers seized 40 grams of marijuana and two ounces of cocaine, Rivard said.
In addition, cops reportedly seized several vehicles. Dollar proceeds from vehicle sales can be used by the departments.
- Wapato residents arrested include:
- A Hispanic female, 19, of 708 S. Camas, charged with maintaining a drug house (cocaine).
- Martinez Gerardo Camarillo, 20, 708 S. Camas, cocaine possession
- Martinez Crescencio Camarillo, 32, 708 S. Camas, delivering cocaine
- Ernesto Salvador Chavez, 48, 213 W. "C" St., delivering marijuana
- Sevastin Espinoza, 32, 214 W. "C" St., cocaine possession
- Rivard said all male suspects were sent to Yakima County Jail to await arraignment in Yakima Superior Court. The woman was released for later court summons because she has a newborn child.
Sunnyside man charged with rape
- SUNNYSIDE (Tuesday, 12-1-98)--Sunnyside police have arrested a Sunnyside man and charged him with a Nov. 27 rape that reportedly took place in the back room of a store at Mid-Valley Mall.
- Police said the suspect, Luis A. Cruz, 17, of 153 Randel Rd., was arrested at 8:30 a.m. today. Both Cruz and the alleged victim, a 15-year old girl, were employees working at 1 p.m. Friday when the incident reportedly occurred.
- Police said no weapon was used, the victim was not injured, and she did not require medical treatment.
- Cruz was booked into the Sunnyside jail and transported to the Yakima County Juvenile Detention Center. He was charged with one count of second degree rape, one count of indecent liberties, and a count of fourth degree assault, according to Det. Kent Coffman.
