YSO offers citizens' law enforcement academy
YAKIMA (Tuesday 12-8-98)--The Yakima County Sheriff's office is offering a first-ever citizens' academy for persons who would:

• Like to learn more about law enforcement, or

• Like more information about ways to report and prevent crime in their neighborhoods.

YSO views the citizens' academy as an important project in its community oriented policing objectives, according to Deputy Bill Splawn.

"By working in partnership with the community, we can both track and solve more crimes," he said.

Classes will begin in January and will be held Thursday nights for six weeks from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Yakima County Courthouse, 128 N. 2nd St., Yakima.

The program is free of charge. More information about the academy may be obtained by calling Bill Splawn at (509) 574-2500.
