Deputies earn medals for courage
KENNEWICK (Thursday, 11-24-98)--Two Benton County Sheriff's deputies have earned a place in history as the first to receive top medals from the department.

Medals were presented at the Benton County Justice Center this afternoon.

Deputy Tom Croskrey was awarded the department's Medal of Honor for his actions April 15 in an incident where he was forced to shoot an armed suspect who was threatening his and another deputy's life.

Deputy Jeff Quackenbush received the department's Life Saving Medal for his actions July 12 when he evacuated a home that was engulfed in flames.

Both cases marked the first occasion where the two top medals have been awarded, according to Undersheriff Bill Morey.

Coroner's stolen truck recovered
FINLEY (Thursday, 11-12-98)--Somebody stole Franklin County Coroner Dan Blasdel's truck Nov. 3, but Benton County deputies recovered it yesterday near here.

Deputies were alerted to a speeding truck in the area of Morton and Reik Roads at a little past 1 a.m. Wednesday.

They gave chase but the truck sped away. After a short distance, the truck slowed down and several persons jumped out--then the truck ran off the road.

Deputies nabbed the jumpers and they learned the truck had been stolen from Blasdel Nov. 3. Seven juveniles were in the truck. Investigators will see if they should be charged with possession of stolen property.

Most of the juveniles were released to their parents.

The juvenile driver, an unfortunately unnamed bird from Finley, was charged with eluding and reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license, and second degree theft, officers said. He was booked at Kennewick's Juvenile Justice Center on those charges plus two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Blasdel got his truck back, according to Undersheriff Bill Morey.

Everett hunter shot near Prosser

PROSSER (Tuesday, 11-3-98)--An Everett man was accidentally shot near Old Inland Empire Highway and McDonald Roads--Hogue Farms-- at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Deputies said Charles D.
