- Truck driver
arrested after crash
- YAKIMA (Wednesday,
8-26-98)--A 61-year old Yakima man was arrested
after his flatbed truck--loaded with car
batteries--crashed as he was fleeing from
deputies.
-
- Deputy Michael Hoffee
said the driver suffered minor injuries when his
1973 Ford truck went out of control on Gun Club
road near South 41st Street around 2:50 p.m.
Tuesday.
-
- Hoffee said the
unnamed man had been stopped by a commercial
vehicle enforcement officer, but "drove away during
the contact". Deputies gave chase and arrested the
man when his truck crashed, spilling batteries and
acid all over the roadway.
-
- A Dept. of Ecology
team was called to the scene to clean up the acid
spill.
-
- Deputies are
investigating whether the man was drunk during the
episode. The driver refused medical treatment at
the scene and was booked into Yakima County Jail,
deputies reported. Charges against the man weren't
immediately released.
-
- Blanca Garcia
back home
- MABTON (Thursday,
8-6-98)--Fifteen-year old Blanca Selene Garcia has
been located and returned home Yakima County
Sheriff's deputies said today.
-
- She reportedly phoned
the Yakima PD this morning and asked them to come
and get her. She was taken to the YSO for an
interview and released to her parents, deputies
said today.
-
- Blanca reportedly is
in good condition after having been reported
kidnapped from her Mabton home July 25. Suspected
in the incident was Ricardo Miranda, 19, who has
not been taken into custody.
-
- Circumstances of
Blanca's departure from her home are now in
question. But because of the age difference between
Blanca and Miranda, deputies will turn their
investigation over to Yakima County Prosecutor Jeff
Sullivan for possible criminal
charges.
-
- The YSO and Garcia
family has thanked media outlets for their help,
and will release further information as it becomes
available, according to Lt. Ken Irwin.
