Other Sunnyside persons also were arrested on other charges in connection with an incident that resulted from a traffic stop in an alley between South 9th and 10th streets at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

During the arrest, police said they confiscated ski masks, stolen stereo equipment, knives and other items inside a red Ford truck involved in the incident.

Arrested at the scene were:

Joel J. Mojica, 17, 1700 N. Cascade Way #71, a mobile home
court in the South Hill area, for unlawful possession of a firearm,
possession of an altered (serial number ground off) firearm,
possession of burglary tools, malicious mischief, third degree theft

mischief, and accomplice to third degree theft.

Ricardo C. Chavez, 34, address not reported, allowing an
unlicensed person to drive.

Daniel Castillo Espinoza, 21, of 811 Taylor Ave., driving with no
license nor identification.

Officer Steve Zetz said he spotted a red Ford truck driving erratically on Harrison Ave. last night. He followed the truck and watched as it made turns in which the back tires struck the curb. Then the truck turned into an alley between South 9th and 10th and turned off its lights. Zetz drove up behind it, and the truck started up and began to pull forward. Zetz turned on his emergency lights, signaling the truck to pull over.

The truck reportedly was driven by 21-year old Daniel Espinoza. Zetz
arrested Espinoza for having no drivers license nor any identification. He and officer Shane Mortensen then searched the truck.

Officers reportedly found in plain view two ski masks behind the driver's seat, two large mag-light flashlights, and two knives. Beneath the seat, officers found a .22 cal. Jennings J-22 pistol. The back side of the grip had been ground off, erasing most of the serial number.

Officers also found a JVC car cassette stereo on the front floor passenger side of the red Ford. The equipment was later identified as belonging to Mario Verduzco, who lives in the county.

Verduzco had not reported the theft to the sheriff's dept., but did identify the stereo as his own. In a statement, Trevino said the pistol belonged to Mojica, and that he had seen Mojica display it earlier in the day.

Reports said Trevino earlier told officers the stereo wasn't stolen. But later, Trevino reportedly admitted being with Mojica when the car was broken into and the stereo stolen.

Trevino took officers to Verduzco's car, a window of which had been
broken.

When police searched Mojica, they found two porcelain sections of a
spark plug. Mojica reportedly told them the pieces were used for breaking into cars.

The red Ford truck was impounded by Denny Morrow Towing.
