Socialistas again out
in force
- OPINION
- SUNNYSIDE (Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998)---The socialistas are
again out in force, and they're trying to shut the mouths of
everyone who disagrees with them.
-
- Our view is simple: to hell with socialists. Think what you
want and say what you want. Do it today. And don't let the SOBs
get you down.
-
- What is a socialist? They tend to be the arrogant boys and
girls who draw salaries and fringe benefits provided at taxpayer
expense, enjoy it all via affirmative action programs, and whose
activities are protected by the state from public scrutiny. Read
private, nonprofit corporations.
-
- When it comes to the National Council of La Raza "leaders",
for example, every one of them works for some public or private
outfit funded by you and me via the IRS. There's not a carpenter
or a pipefitter or a shopkeeper in the whole bunch.
-
- The socialistas are the ones who use their considerable
free time to organize political protest groups against anyone who
doesn't believe as they do.
-
- They're often fairly decent folks, until you disagree with
them. Then goofy ideas flutter out of their socialist noggins like
bats at dusk. That brings us to our little berg.
-
- Check this Yakima Herald Republic headline: Werkhoven
refuses to apologize. Councilman maintains he's done nothing
wrong. Well--he hasn't! What sort of lame brain would infer
that he has?
-
- Werkhoven said celebration of Fiestas Patrias--one
of several Mexican Independence Days--in the streets of Sunnyside
would be divisive and would increase racial tensions. Maybe he's
right! It hasn't done otherwise so far as we can see.
-
- We were at the council meeting that has socialistas so
shook up. Werkhoven said he didn't approve of Fiestas Patrias
being celebrated locally. But he also said "I believe in the
Constitution, so I won't stand in your way." And he voted to let
Fiestas Patrias organizers do their thing.
-
- But the socialistas weren't happy with that, which is
suspicious in itself. They want either to gag Werkhoven or do all
they can to get him out of office.
-
- Paul Mendez, who works for the publicly funded but
privately operated OIC (unless he got another job), reportedly
said "Everyone is entitled to their opinions. However, when you're
an elected official, it makes a big difference. We put you here to
do a job for the entire community."
-
- We would be surprised if it were true that Mendez and
company put Werkhoven in office. The young councilman is honest,
he takes a stand, and there's not a wishy-washy bone in his body.
Those who organize against his reelection will surely polarize
this town as it never before has been.
-
- And Beto Espindola, who works for another publicly-funded
private outfit paid for by you and me, and sits on the town's
Planning Commission, told folks it's "impossible" to assimilate
Hispanics into the American community.
-
- "I don't want to hear any more about assimilation because
that's not what America is about anymore," Espindola said at
Monday's council meeting.
-
- Really?
-
- Got news for you, Beto. America is still about
assimilation, despite the damnable socialists who now control the
U.S. administration, and the miscreants who controlled Congress
for 40 years before 1994.
-
- The pendulum is swinging back. There's not a thing you can
do about it. Let it happen. Ride it out. That would be better than
a second civil war, and we know of folks who are chomping at the
bit for just that.
