Man stabbed in Sunnyside fight

SUNNYSIDE (Thursday, 5-28-98)--One man stabbed another during a fight in the 500 block of Reeves Way late last night, according to police.

 

Arrested by officer Kent Coffman and charged with first degree assault in connection with the stabbing was Francisco G. Vivanco, 20, of 511 Arrowsmith Rd., Sunnyside.

 

Police responded to a call about a fight at 6th St. and Yakima Valley Hwy. They stopped two vehicles and discovered Ruben Roman, 19, had been stabbed.

 

Police said Roman was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital, where officials today said he was treated and released to the PD around 11 p.m. last night. Police reports didn't indicate Roman had been held.

 

 Gangsters suspected in destroying car

 SUNNYSIDE (Sunday, 5-24-98)--During a Memorial Day weekend chock-full of incidents, thugs reportedly stole and destroyed a car belonging to an Outlook couple.

 

Police said the gray 1997 Honda was parked in the parking lot of Crazy Mike's Video, 442 S. 6th St., and was reported stolen around midnight.

 

Nearby residents later showed officers Chico Rodriguez and Bob Charvet where the car had been shoved into the NW Crescent irrigation canal to the west of the city.

 

The car, belonging to Dave and Carri Parker, was found in the county, but deputies let Sunnyside police handle the detail because the report came into the department.

 

Suspected punks had kicked the car and smashed the windshield and hood with what probably was a tire iron. Then they used another car to push the Honda into the ditch.

 

Due to Yakima Valley News policy, the names and addresses of anyone arrested in connection with the incident--regardless of age--will be published.

 

Thugs hit Valley View Market 

 

SUNNYSIDE (Monday, 5-18-98)--Three armed robbers hit Valley View Market, 107 W. Lincoln Ave., at 3 a.m. today and made off with $25 worth of booze, according to Sunnyside PD reports.

 

Jesus Barajas, a Valley View Market clerk, called police. Officer Shane Mortensen and Det. Sgt. Jim Rivard responded. Police said three males were involved, two juveniles and one adult.

 

Witnesses said two males, indicating an adult and juvenile, got out of a car parked alongside Valley View, and entered the store. One, the juvenile, pulled a large knife on the clerk, who had just begun to call police.

 

After they got what they wanted, thugs fled with $25 worth of liquor products. The second juvenile drove the getaway car, police said.

 

Police nabbed the trio in different areas after investigations. They later impounded the knife and getaway car.

 

The two juveniles were taken to the Yakima Juvenile Detention Center. One will be charged as an accomplice to first degree robbery, the other with first degree robbery. The adult was booked into Sunnyside jail on first-degree robbery charges.

 

Arrested in connection with the incident were:

 

• Rigoberto M. Alvarez, 19, of 1012 S. 13th St., Sunnyside

 

• Pedro Baltazar, 17, of 1270 Outlook Rd., Outlook

 

• Luis A. Garcia-Juarez, 15, of 4710 County Line Rd., Grandview

 

Police reports indicate Alvarez also was arrested on a warrant May 6 by officer Phil Schenck and booked into the Sunnyside Law & Justice Center.

 

In other police matters, reports indicate another member of the Alvarez family also was arrested on warrants two weeks ago.

 

Jose Antonio Alvarez, 23, also of 1012 S. 13th St., was arrested May 7 by Mabton's officer Minar at 7th and Jefferson, Mabton, and booked on an outstanding warrant.

SUNNYSIDE (Thursday, 5-28-98)--Rodney Means, 35, POB 538 Sunnyside, was arrested by officer Kevin Myers at 11:45 a.m. May 27 and booked on a court commitment.

 

SUNNYSIDE (Thursday, 5-28-98)--Richard D. Parker, 27, of 411 Nass Rd., Granger, was arrested on a warrant on E. Edison at 1:47 p.m. May 27.

SUNNYSIDE (Saturday, 5-16-98)--Jose G. Morales, 24, of 12 Wenas Ave., Mattawa, was arrested by state troopers on Hwy 241 at 9:40 p.m. May 16,and booked for having no valid operators license. He also was held for immigration authorities.

 

SUNNYSIDE (Saturday, 5-16-98)--Horacio A. Rivera, 24, of 1712 24th Ave., Apt. 11, Pasco, was arrested by officer L. Messmore at 11:20 p.m. May 16 at 16th and Yakima Valley Hwy. SUNNYSIDE--Geronimo Perez III, 28, of 322 E. North Ave., Sunnyside, was arrested by Yakima Sheriff's deputies at 6:56 a.m. May 5 on a court warrant.

SUNNYSIDE--Christopher Joseph Charvet , 39, of 4001 Bethany Rd., Sunnyside, was arrested at 5:27 p.m. May 1 by Officer S. Rodriquez on S. 7th St., and charged with second degree criminal trespass.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Tonny Duarta, 29, of 1316 E. Lincoln Ave. #4, was arrested by state patrolmen at 10:25 p.m. May 3. He was charged with driving with a suspended license, giving false information and refusual to cooperate with a police officer.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Julio Moreno Estrada, 65, of 307 Ave. H, Grandview, was arrested by state patrolmen at Yakima Valley Hwy and Factory Rd. at 12:18 a.m. May 3 on a court warrant.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Alejandro S. Garibo, 27, of 1328 Sheridan St. Prosser, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. May 3 at TW Market, 1143 Tacoma Ave., by Officer S. Rodriquez and held for immigration authorities.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Abaram Gomez Garza, 28, of 39 E. Parkland, Sunnyside, was arrested at 10:22 p.m. May 2 by Officer Jose Guillen at 5th and Franklin Aves. Garza was booked into the Sunnyside Law & Justice Center on charges of vehicle prowling and third degree theft.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Felix Garza, 38, of 720 S. 6th St. Sunnyside, was arrested by Officer Jarin Whitby at 5:20 p.m. May 2 and charged with threats to do harm.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Floyd B. Gibson, 41, of 732 S. 13th St., Sunnyside, was arrested by Officer Robert Charvet at 2:30 p.m. May 3 and charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer who was serving a warrant.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Two "male juvenile offenders" ages 13 and 17, both of Bien Estar, 1691 Washington Court, Sunnyside, were arrested by Officer S. Rodriquez around noon May 2 and booked on charges of third degree malicious mischief and investigation of same.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Ricky L. Heesh, 39, of 523 S. University Ave., Spokane, was arrested by Officer Jarin Whitby at Sunnyside Hospital at 7:08 a.m. May 2 and booked on a warrent for his arrest.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Martin Ochoa Madrigal, 29, of 415 N. 4th St., Sunnyside, was arrested by state patrolmen at Sun Valley Inn, 724 Yakima Valley Highway, Sunnyside at 11:41 a.m. May 1, and booked on several charges. Charges include driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest, making false statements to officers, possessing marijuana and paraphrenalia, and several outstanding warrants.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Ronald Eugene McIntosh, 42, of 761 Lengseine Rd., Mabton, was arrested at Sunyside Safeway by Officer Robert Charvet at 5 p.m. May 2 and charged with fourth degree assault.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Matthew Orin Newberry, 27, of 3010 S. Everett Place, Kennewick, was arrested on the corner of 6th and Edison by officer Jose Guillen at 8:34 p.m. May 2 and booked on an outstanding warrent for his arrest.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Angel Loys Perez, 28, of 210 Pecan Rd., Grandview, was arrested at 7:18 p.m. May 3 on the corner of 6th and Edison, Sunnyside,by officer Jose Guillen and booked on charges of fourth degree assault and threats to do harm.

SUNNYSIDE--Benjamin S. Rangel, 40, of "General Delivery", Pasco, was arrested on a warrent by officer Jarin Whitdy at 2 p.m. May 2 on the corner of 5th and Grant Sts., Sunnyside.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Ninfa Rodriguez, 44, of 732 S. 13th St., was arrested at 2:50 p.m. May 3 by officer Sam Rodriquez and booked on a warrant for her arrest and for violating a no-contact order.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Ofelia P. Roman, 40, of 821 Beckner Alley, was arrsted at her home at 5:50 p.m. May 3 by officer Jarin Whitby and booked on a warrent for her arrest.

SUNNYSIDE--Rafael Torres, 28, of 503 Fern St., Mabton, was arrested by officer Pete Garza at 9 a.m. May 1 on outstanding warrants.

 

SUNNYSIDE--Sam Morgan Tyler, 28, of 421 S. 11th St., was arrested by officer Jose Guillen at 11:52 p.m. May 1 in the 500 block of Scoon Rd. He was booked on disorderly conduct charges.

MABTON--Rogelio Zamora, 37, of 1320 S. 11th St. C5, was arrested at 4:17 p.m. May 2 by Mabton police at the Silver Dollar Cafe, Mabton, and booked on charges of fourth degree assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and threats to do harm.

SUNNYSIDE--Salvador Soliz Espinoza, 47, of 721 S. 8th St., Sunnyside, was arrested on a warrant by Officer William Eikenbary at 8th and Custer St. at 5:40 p.m. April 29.
