Lincoln Street project on target
Sunnyside (2-9-98)--In the past couple years, two humongous retail outlets and a new school building have gone up on E. Lincoln.

A new state building is in planning stages, too, Keith Olson, Anderson-Perry construction engineers, told the City Council tonight.

During that time, E. Lincoln Ave. has continued to be a bumpy, two-lane road with a lot of traffic.

All that should end by next September, barring any right-of-way legal complications, Olson said.

Lincoln will be widened to four smooth, paved lanes with curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

Olson said the Washington State Dept. of Transporation takes four to six weeks to process acceptances of right-of-way.

Once right-of-way is approved by the state, bids can be let for road construction.

If all goes as planned, bids would go out by the end of March, with an April or May bid award.

"If we can start by June 1, after school is out, we should have it done in September. If not, we may still be doing some work into September, Olson said.

Seventy-five percent of the $1.1-million project was paid for by federal funds, about 10 percent by the state, and 15 percent from budgeted 1998 city funds.
